Ethical design decisions for the future

Book Now

The theme for Sydney Design Festival 2019 is about broadening the dialogues between creative practitioners, inclusivity and access to different paradigms. And, this year Meld Studios are running a workshop to help you critically think about the impact of designs that have been put out in the world. Meld Studios exists to improve the everyday lives of people as they interact with the world around them. We believe in the process of human centred design to creating a vision and strategy that can support everyone. So if you want to be more involved in the impact design creates grab a ticket. Tickets are limited.

A workshop to exploring futures and critical reflections

Often practitioners in the field struggle to make the ‘right’ decisions because they lack clear criteria and established processes to frame their work, especially when it involves an unknown future. Ethics in technology has become a hot topic and raises a lot of concerns and questions for designers embedding technology such as AI into their products, services, and experiences.

This event will expose people to a practice known as Speculative and Critical Design (SCD) – a practice of imagining future scenarios beyond our current social and economic paradigms. It will also be used as an ethical reflection process, guiding us to make more responsible and sustainable design decisions for all humans.

In this engaging session, participants will:

– Understand the basics of Speculative and Critical Design (SCD)
– Learn how to embedded SCD into a design to provocate the future
– Walk away with tools to bring back to their organisations to extend this conversation.
