Calling all makers and designers! Families of all ages are invited to come to the museum to engage in hands on making, demonstrations, talks exploring all aspects of design. Designers will be able to engage in activities related to Fashion, Architecture, Illustration, Engineering and more!

During the visit visitors will have the option to purchase tickets to the paid exhibition Star Wars Identities: The Exhibition* where they can learn about costume design, see designs and characters from the franchise. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view specialised design exhibitions, such as Shape, The Ideal Home and Akira Isogawa.

Visitors can then explore a range of activities influenced by these exhibitions and engage in design activities that they may have previously not been able to.

Activities include:

  • Fashion and design – visitors can explore the process of fashion design through a range of activities such as fashion illustration, pattern making and making their own wearable piece
  • Explore the intersection of Design and S.T.E.A.M through architectural challenges such as designing and building their own ideal homes, cubby houses, bridges, skyscrapers and more.
  • Visitors can visit the Volunteer Discovery stations and learn about traditional design processes explore lace making, weaving and engineering

Suitable for children and families of all ages.

* Please note Star Wars Identities: The Exhibition requires a separate admission cost. Tickets are available now online through ticketek.com.au, over the phone with Ticketek on 132 849 or in person at Ticketek outlets. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Museum admissions desk.

Akira Isogawa and Ideal Home are free with Museum admission.
