Maps is an exhibition of large-scale hand-embroidered textile works that explore pattern, place and symbolism by MaricorMaricar. Needlework and mark-making speaks of both time passing and time captured. Using needlework and quilting techniques, these reimagined map works are built up, stitch by stitch, and trace experiences, rather than specific topographies.

Traditionally methods such as needlework and quilting have been used as functional processes to create useful objects. Within their work, MaricorMaricar explore the potential for these crafts to be used in place of pencil, ink or paint, as mediums for mark-making. They exploit the tactility and structure of fabric, where layers build upon each other and the surface underneath is the basis for what builds above. Threads sewn back in give another aspect to the fabric as they obscure, reinforce or disrupt the structure beneath.
